The compound is proposed to function through tissue-specific gene expression modulation in chondrocyte and connective tissue cell populations. Cartalax has been investigated in the Russian academic literature (Bulletin of Experimental Biology and Medicine; Khavinson and colleagues) for chondrocyte gene expression, extracellular matrix biology, and age-associated cartilage cell function in preclinical research models.
